FAQs

What is an Air Ambulance?

An air ambulance (also known as an emergency air evacuation plane) is a custom configured aircraft that has medical equipment on board and is used to transport both emergent and non-emergent patients from one location to another. The air ambulance service is needed in times when the level of injury is too severe for ground transport, or when the patient in need is in an area or island that does not offer the level of medical facilities needed to treat the injury or medical emergency.

Why should I purchase a membership with BahamasEvac Services?

Whether you are a local or a visiting guest, we offer several types and levels of memberships that are tailored to meet your specific needs. Life-threatening injuries and serious illness can occur when you least expect it, and by purchasing a BahamasEvac membership, you ensure that in your time of need you have access to life-saving medical evacuation services. Whether you are in need of long-term or short-term coverage, we have a package to suit your needs. Our aircraft are configured and staffed to resemble a self-contained critical care unit – we offer you peace of mind, safety and security.

What are the types of memberships that you offer?

BahamasEvac offers several different packages:

All of our Family Plans cover the applicant and their spouse and children under 18 if applicable.

When does my membership become active?

Membership is active 15 business days after receipt of initial payment.

How many flights can a member take each year?

The number of emergency evacuation flights that a member may take per year depends on the type of membership purchased.

  • Basic membership allows for two (2) emergency flights
  • Gold allows for three (3) emergency flights
  • Platinum allows for four (4) emergency flights

Does a membership ensure that Bahamas Evac will fly me regardless of the type of medical care I need?

BahamasEvac knows that air ambulances are extremely valuable and therefore we reserve emergency air evacuation planes for those instances when a patient is deemed to be facing a critical or life-threatening injury or illness.

If the medical situation is not deemed an emergency, Bahamas Evac will resort to using a commercial flight to ensure that those who are most in need can receive medical care at the fastest rate possible.

BahamasEvac designates medical emergencies into two (2) different categories:

  • Category 1 – Critical medical emergencies – anything deemed to be life threatening and requiring emergency air ambulance evacuation
  • Category 2 – Priority medical situations (i.e. Not deemed a critical emergency, such as the breaking of bones)

What happens if I am injured and hospitalized while away from home?

If you become injured or hospitalized while away from home, BahamasEvac will fly one family member to your location to accompany you during your recovery.

Can a family member accompany the patient in the air/ground ambulance:

Yes, depending on the type of injury and amount of space available in the air/ground ambulance – one (1) family member may accompany the patient.

If there is not enough room in the plane, BahamasEvac will send the family member to the destination of the patient via a commercial flight.

What service does Bahamas Evac offer if I pass away while away from home?

In the unfortunate event that you pass away while away from home, a membership with BahamasEvac assures your loved ones that BahamasEvac will both arrange and cover the cost to have the member’s remains returned to the nearest commercial airport closest to the member’s permanent residence.

What happens if I am not a member but need to use Bahamas Evac services?

If you find yourself faced with a medical emergency, and you are in need of BahamasEvac services, but you have not purchased a membership, you may still use our emergency air ambulance service. In this situation we advise that you contact us at 1-242-323-1162 to speak with one of our experienced staff members, who will then assess the situation and give you a quote over the phone – this quote must be paid in full prior to take-off.

One-time air ambulance fees can be very expensive – due to this, BahamasEvac Services created an affordable membership pricing strategy. We wanted to ensure that these life-saving services were as accessible as possible to those who need them the most.

This is another reason why greatly advise purchasing the membership, whether on a long-term basis, or if you are here for a quick visit – it’s a minimal fee for a life-saving service.
